BRIAN AND UNCLE GERALD VISIT EUROPE
Summer 2005 |

Brian immediately was jet-lagged and caught a snooze on our arrival.
When he awoke we visited Juergen, Edith and Jens Block for a little afternoon
snack.

We then checked out Norbert's wine cellar before dinner...

The next day we drove to Austria to visit our friends at the
Neumeister winery in the Steiermark.

They have a small, very comfortable inn and we stayed there.

Brian was impressed with the cellar.
He had a good schlaf after dinner.

We then stopped at Tement's little weinkeller.

And from there, it was Italy on the radar!

Lunch in Austria along the autobahn...

Dinner at Chateau Rosetta began with some prosciutto di San Daniele...very fine!
Alessandra made her famous pesto!

The next morning we toured with Rosetta and then met up with
Elda Felluga and her daughter Tiziana for a Saturday lunch.

Lunch was simple and beautifully prepared and presented.

We then ventured to have a look at an Italian Renaissance Faire.

Brian found an Italian he could really look up to.

In school, Brian is often told to "Take a seat." Here's one seat
he couldn't take...that's Little Brian by the front (right) of the chair.
We were invited to Giuliano Masserotti's 40th Birthday Bash, an event featuring
a bit of well-roasted pork.

The host and birthday boy, Giuliano.
Brian then played for the crowd.

Pretty authentic, too...notice his eyes are closed.
On our way back to Castello Rosetta I noticed a gelateria...and it was OPEN!

Brian enjoyed his first Italian Gelato!
The next morning we boarded the train in Udine and headed for Venice.

VENICE
with ALESSANDRA DORIGO

Alessandra and her Mom, Rosa Bosco.
The next day we headed for another winery and Verona.

The gelato in Verona was pretty good, though less exotic than Alaska in Venezia.

We then motored up the highway to Faedo to stay with our pals,
the Sandri Family.

Lunch by the Lago di Caldaro.

Lunch in Grumo at Da Pino...

Brian, Fiorentino and Federico.
The next morning we departed early to find the San Patrignano winery near
Rimini in Emilia-Romagna.
We were invited for lunch at their grand hall.

After lunch we toured the facilities, an amazing estate full of productive
activities for the people who are enrolled in the San Patrignano
"rehabilitation" program.

They were preparing a stadium or arena to host the European horse jumping
championships!
We then drove to Tavarnelle Val di Pesa to hang out with the Masi family.
We had many great meals thanks to Anna, Piero, Angela, Giovanni and Giulia.

We had lunch in Montalcino our first day of touring in
Tuscany.

Brian opened some bottles of Brunello.

The next day Francesca and Giampaolo were getting married.
