BAROLO ON A CLEAR DAY IN 1998
You can see the rolling hillsides carpeted with vineyards in the
Langhe region.
This photo was taken above the village of Barolo.

NONNA PIERINA VIETTI
(of the Vietti winery in Castiglione Falletto)
Making
Pasta Fresca.
The people in the Langhe region call the tagliatelle "tajarin""
Nonna, at age 90, had been making fresh pasta for more than a few years!
SADLY--
NONNA DIED IN APRIL 2003.
We miss her greatly!

All roads, it seems, lead to Barbaresco.
Especially when you're in Piemonte!

A Young Winemaker in Piemonte
(Signore Verro da Neive, Elisa's Fratello)

Black Truffles on Display in a Shop in Alba.

Hands of a Winemaker.

Bottles of Levi Grappa. The labels were done by hand, one at a time!

Bottles of 1999 Barolo awaiting labeling at the winery of Elio Grasso near
Monforte d'Alba.

I insisted Aldo Vajra stand "just so," in an effort to capture the
winery name both behind him on the wall and through his eye-glasses.

A typical wall with a patchwork of bricks.

The "pace" is sometimes slow in Italy, but "pace" means
"peace."

There's a wonderful grissini specialist in Barolo, very close to the winery of
Borgogno.
Don't miss a taste of these babies!

A few glasses of the un-labeled 1999 Barolo made by Bartolo Mascarello.

Two grand "old timers" who made fabulous wines.
Alfredo Currado on the left (Vietti winery) and Bartolo Mascarello on the right.

Young Giulia Currado enjoys a taste of chocolate behind a bowl of chocolate
"tartufi."
