LUNCH AT DOC
---
DINNER AT NIEPOORT
With Gabriela Santos
We had heard good things from various vintners about a
fancy, new dining establishment right on the Douro River...DOC.
We had heard about a fancy
restaurant along the river called DOC, so we went there for lunch.

I think there's a law in Portugal requiring dining establishments to have a TV
screen visible in the dining room.
Many are tuned to a soccer match, but DOC's is tuned to a closed circuit camera
in their kitchen.

An amuse bouche...

Fish soup.

Difficult to see...but basically an Octopus "Carpaccio" with
pomegranate seeds, some mixed greens and a "Parmigiano" cracker on
top.

More octopus...

Bacalhau com Broa (Cod with bread crumbs)...
A VISIT TO NIEPOORT
in Portugal's Douro Valley

This cellar was devoted
predominantly to the production of table wines.

It's in a beautiful little
valley, just south of the Douro River...

Don't worry: They're empty.

As we had some time before
dinner, we took a short stroll around the estate.

Back to the winery...there's a
dining room where the workers gather during the harvest for a meal...

The chef de cuisine then
prepared a lovely plate of fish...

Rice.

And then dessert...

Ahh...home cooking!

What a wonderful visit to
Niepoort!
Muito Obrigado...
