FOOD WINE & FRIENDS Page 135

We motored from the Carneros region to Woodside for an
evening with the Tolmachs and FitzJensens.

Rise and Schwein, for a bier it's time!

Norbert and Jesper.
Jesper-San made some sashimi and sushi...

There was a little Sushi Monster in the vicinity...

Schluck, schluck...

Uncle Gerald, Alanna-Pooh and Danish FitzJensen.

Gaby stops to smell the roses.

Alanna stops to smell the pumpkins...
Meanwhile, back in the kitchen...

Tomato-Mania!
Norbert admires some of the baking handiwork...

Norbert admires the length of a good, stiff baguette.
Lucy had prepared a pot of Corn Chowder...
I suggested embellishing the soup with some fresh Dungeness
Crab...

...and the Rieslings weren't bad, either!
Poet's Leap is a Washington State Riesling, while the Petaluma comes from
Australia. Both were quite good.

Roasted Salmon...Very fine!

Salad, fresh from the garden.

Gaby and Norbert brought a bottle of dessert wine from their Canadian adventure,
a Quail's Gate 2006 Optima.

"Optima-licious" said Amy.
Meanwhile, Jonathan was busy trying out a new gadget brought by Gaby and
Norbert.

Voila!

SUNDAY
We motored to Marin County Sunday morning...

We drove to Stinson Beach and the Parkside Cafe for breakfast.

Eat well, be happy.

Gaby eating well.
Afterwards we had a stroll on the beach...

Someone "sprechens" some Deutsch in Stinson Beach...

...some English, too.
We got back on the road and headed for Muir Woods.

The entrance to Muir Woods.
Gaby checks out world history...

We then went for another perspective of the bridge...
We then trekked across the bridge to Fisherman's Wharf...
Here we had a quick bit of crab...
From The City we drove to Woodside for dinner with Alexia and
Henry...

Alexia's Mom, Ilene, who also has two glasses of Champagne...
It runs in the family, apparently.

We began with a salad of arugula, watermelon and Feta cheese...

Pink wines from Frog's Leap and Bonny Doon accompanied the salad.

Alexia's selections of a Vietti 1990 Barbera from the Pian Romualdo vineyard and
Gaja's 1982 Barbaresco were exceptional.

And so the vacation wound up on a Sunday evening...and Monday Gaby and Norbert
returned to Frankfurt and their lovely abode in Rodgau!
Until next time!!!
Many thanks to Alexia and Henry for hosting Saturday night and to Lucy and
Jonathan for the Saturday soire.
