These two people are not sure if there's enough cheese.

Same here.
We then had a palate-cleansing, pipe-cleaning sorbet of lemon which had so much
acidity, it nearly burned through the glass cup in which it was served.

Yumm!
We then decanted a bottle of 1950 Sandeman Vintage Porto. The wax
top was easy enough to chip away, but as often happens with older bottles, the
top half of the cork came out and I had to make a second try to get the rest of
it removed.

The 1950 was not a hall-of-fame vintage, but this wine was sublime!
Bob offered a tray of chocolate and fruit desserts.

All this chocolate nearly mesmerized Alexia. But she did take note of the
berry tart on the platter and snagged one of those.
Claudia, meanwhile, wanted to taste EVERYTHING, so she snagged a small portion
of each.

As "There's no time like the present!," it WAS time for Alexia to open
her gifts.

Marjorie gave Alexia a wonderful Cashmere piece from Malouf's, the local fancy
clothing shop in Burlingame.
Alexia was enthralled by a frog-themed birthday card.

From our German friends, Gaby and Norbert, this was accompanied by a lovely box
of Swiss Mesli.

Alexia then explained her love of Mesli.
"It was the cheapest thing on the menu at a ski hut in Switzerland,
everything else costing a small fortune. So I ordered it. I don't
really like it, but I keep getting boxes of this stuff for some reason."
Bob presented her with a few wine tools.

This even comes with a thermometer, so Alexia can take Henry's temperature and
see if he's ready for wine.
And so we concluded a most wonderful evening,

leaving Bob with a day's worth of dish-washing and house-cleaning.
Everyone gave Bob a standing ovation, even the creature depicted above.
Superb!!!
