Alexia's 39th Birthday
2004 Version
Page 2
Bob sauted the venison medallions.

These didn't take but a few minutes.
And we sat down to the main course.
A toast to the birthday girl and then, a toast to the chef!

We paired two Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage wines with the venison.

I found the 1986 Chave Hermitage to be a bit earthy and funky on the nose.
The 1988, meanwhile, was deep, berryish and distinctly peppery. Both were
good!
Sandy, hoping to burn a couple of calories, then did some heavy lifting.

Since one platter of cheeses was not sufficient, Bob brought out a second tray!

Alexia, who loves good cheeses, was in Fromage Heaven!
So she and Claudia grabbed the platters and chased each other around the table.

Bob had gone to The Milk Pail, a most curious, gas station-like building in
Mountain View. They have a phenomenal selection of cheeses and at low
prices. An array of produce and other specialty items are offered there.

We opened two 1988 red Burgundies.
The Louis Remy Chambertin was just starting to blossom, coming out of its rather
"hard" shell. The wine offered a nice Pinot Noir fragrance and
is still youthful, acidic and firm on the palate.
The Daniel Rion Clos Vougeot was a shade softer and more round. It had
lovely fruit and some sweet cherry notes. Still plenty of life to the Rion
wine, also.
The platters made numerous rounds, circulating from person to person.

Bob was wondering if he had, in fact, procured a sufficient quantity of cheeses.
