CCIV-2010

January 2010
On a cool, grey winter day, "Professor" Pascal
Durand brought a group of students from the wine school in Beaune for an annual
tour of California.
On the circuit de espionage, the group comes to our wine shop here in
Burlingame for a little seminar concerning wine distribution, sales and
marketing.
ALEXIA MOORE of Alexia Moore Wine Marketing

explains the Three Tier System and how wines are sold in the U.S.

Alexia prepared a visual aid in helping the group understand
the chains of distribution.

The group had numerous questions in understanding the crazy
patchwork of distribution in the 50 states...

After Alexia's presentation, wine importer Charles Neal
addressed the group.

After the two presentations, we opened a few bottles of wine
for the group to taste...

After tasting the crisp, very citrusy Selene Sauvignon Blanc,
the toasty, smoky Chardonnay from Kistler, the berryish, simple Bartolo Syrah,
mildly spicy Frog's Leap Zinfandel and the herbal, leathery Shafer "One
Point Five" Cabernet, we ambled to our neighbor's restaurant...

We sat down to a nice platter of various types of sushi, a
bowl of Miso Soup and a Bento box of Pork and Salmon...
Of course, we need a bit of wine with this...

And, lo and behold...we had some special bottles!
