VIETTI DINNER Nebbiolo Prima 2012 Edition

The festivities began with a big tasting of new releases and previews of a few
coming attractions.

Everything except the 2012 Moscato d'Asti!

Luca
had brought out a number of special vintages, including the not-yet-released
2006 Villero Riserva with his special "artist's label."

And
the table was set.

Luca
is a fan of Pierre Peters Champagne.

And
he had a special Mystery Bubbly for us...

I guessed it as a Rene Lalou bottling, since I know Luca had enjoyed some fairly
old vintages of that and this wine seemed like a bubbly which had been on the
spent yeast for an extended period of time.

Some sommeliers know how to pour!

Luca unveiled the Mystery Bubbly and it was the 2001 Ferrari "Riserva del
Fondatore."
Molto buono!
I heard another cork pop, my favorite kind of music.

Pol Roger Rose!

Some fried flowers and asparagus were delicious with the various bubblies.

The
famous skier Giulia Currado slalomed in and made her appearance.

Francesco
was amused by a new label for Vietti's Nascetta...

...that is, if they ever make Nascetta.

The kids, Michele and Giulia, are growing up!
Luca was pleased to show off his new surprise label...

Porca Miseria!

A lovely salad starter featuring mixed greens and shredded "cappone,"
(Capon/Chicken).

Francesco explains Barolo to Michele...

In
the kitchen, Chef Marco has a sniff of a young Barolo.

The
pasta is waiting for the water to boil...

Time
to decant some more Barolo!

Taste!

Back
in the kitchen, Marco had some marvelous slabs o'beef.

Costata di Fassone al Sale

The 1989 Barolo Brunate was especially showy on this occasion...

And
at nearly midnight, all the damage had been done...

And the streets of Castiglione were finally quiet!
