BRIAN & HIS UNCLE ARRIVE IN GERMANY
Early July 2005
There's a wonderful butcher shop in our friend's town, Rodgau. The place
is the Hiller Metzgerei and they often have terrific meats!
Brian had a look with Norbert in the cellar
for some good bottles of wine.
Little Eva arrived in time for the festivities.
She had not seen Brian since he was a little squirt.
Now she needs a ladder to see eye-to-eye!
Some nibbles were ready to pair with the two Champagnes Norbert selected.
We started with a bottle of Henri Goutorbe
Brut and followed with a Roger Pouillon. Yum!
Joining the party was the Bonifer family. Here's Elena Bonifer hanging out
Norbert opened a St. Michael Eppan "Lahn" Sauvignon to pair with their
excellent "polpo" salad.
This was delicious!
We also had a lovely bottle of 2004 Josephus Mayr Sauvignon.
Then it was time to grill some Hiller sausages and drink some Spanish reds!
Here's the Grill-Meister...
Gaby prepared a wonderful bowl of peppers.
Gaby made an outstanding (and I mean OUTSTANDING!) chocolate cake.
I initially thought this must be from one of their gourmet shops in Frankfurt,
Norbert opened a bottle of Maury from Mas Amiel. Yum!
We then shared some gifts...Norbert and Gaby have Buell motorcycles, so I got
them each a Buell jacket.
The next morning we had "work" to do. Brian went to school with
Elena Bonifer and Norbert, Gaby and Gerald went to the Mosel.
An impressive line-up at Bollig-Lehnert.
A nice tasting with Wilhelm at Fritz Haag.
Then over to see Thomas Haag at Schloss Lieser.
Then over to see Dr. Loosen.
We then stopped by Schloss Bonifer to meet Brian.
Mom and Daughter.
Then the Block's hosted us at Rodgau's 4th Best dining establishment (behind
Chez Auth, Chez Bauer and Chez Bonifer).
Matthias and Eva.
Brian hoists a bier.
Brian Mit Curry Suppe.
The party moved inside as it began to rain.
The next day Matthias Wooge organized a wine tour, while Brian attempted to
recover from his jet lag!
Weingart was the first stop.
Toni Jost was the second...
We had a quick bite for lunch.
Then on to Nierstein and a stop at G.A. Schneider.
Up the road we found the Gunderloch cellar and winemaker Fritz Hasselbach.
Then we drove to Neu-Isenburg and we met Brian before heading to a new little
Matthias and Brian.
A delicious Rsti and some chanterelles.
Matthias had a salad featuring watermelon and mozzarella.
Aspiring pilot Florian Wooge joined in the festivities.
Gunhild enjoyed the food and a laugh.
Brian enjoyed dessert.
Brian then taught Gaby and Norbert and his Uncle to play poker.
The next morning we got the car and took off for Austria, Italy and France!
