CCIV VISITS BURLINGAME 2005
Page 2
We sat down at a nice long table at Aji Yoshi Ya and I
opened some bottles of special wines.
Some of the students were surprised.
Well, shocked is more like it.

The bottles of wine I bring to lunch for their enjoyment have special labels on
them.
Seo-Eun was most astonished when we poured a Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley's Dylan
Winery.

Kanpai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We then opened a ZD 2002 Chardonnay bearing the label of Florence Garin.
Meanwhile, the Sushi-Making crew was very busy!

The Miso Soup was welcomed as were the wines.

The Sushi was excellent.
Seo-Eun lamented the lack of Japanese restaurants in Beaune:
"They have one place now...everything else is French food!"
We then opened a lovely red wine...

...a Chateau "Finch-Bages".
This was a wonderfully aromatic red from Sean Thackrey in Bolinas.

A Seghesio Zinfandel was delicious and beautifully balanced. It was one of
the few wines which doesn't have the huge alcohol and oak of many California red
wines.
This bottle had the "Cuvee Thomas--Via Maire" label.

The fearless foursome tasters...
We then opened a nice bottle of Olivet Lane Pinot Noir...

...this one being the "Syl VINE" cuvee of "Teston Ranch"
Pinot.
The main plate, a Bento Box of Salmon and Pork then arrived...

The group "chowed down."

Some of those whose "mugs" made it on to the wine labels posed for a
group picture.

Mister Finch-Bages was missing, apparently so stunned by this surprise, he was
nowhere to be found.

Iana Vaille enjoyed the weather. "This is nothing like Siberia."
she said.

Then it was off for a visit in San Francisco at the

and then a trek across the Bay Bridge to

where they'd meet up with Zinfandels from around California.
----
After a day of touring in San Francisco, the crew returns to Beaune!
Best wishes from Burlingame!!!
